3D Lomography – “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door…”

One of my favorite Blender artists, Gleb Alexandrov, did a piece on lomography, which is basically the art of shooting with a broken lens to get some crazy effects.  In 3D you have a ton of options for breaking lenses, so it can be especially cool. I decided to try it, and here is one of my results–I went to an extreme and tried for ridiculous abstract stuff. If you can’t tell, I re-shot my island house (check out my 3D art page) from a top angle and totally wrecked my (digital) lens. So what you’re really looking at is a distorted pathway leading away from a house, with some colored glass along the way. I feel like the crazy distortion of the path leading away from the door is a representation of what Bilbo Baggins says to Frodo: “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
